Rubén Blades - Todos vuelven

This is from a 1985 movie, "Crossover Dreams," a budget picture, filmed for 600 thousand dollars in Spanish Harlem. Rubén Blades plays Rudy Veloz, a salsa singer who yearns to cross over and be successful on the American charts. Finally he has a hit, and it goes to his head. His mentor warns him that his crossover music is crap, but Rudy doesn't listen. Here they are in the living room as the mentor teaches him "Todos vuelven":

Anyway, he leaves his girlfriend and drops his manager, but when he is unable to match his first success with a follow-up hit, he is quickly forgotten. The song, done here almost as a Cuban rumba, is actually a Peruvian waltz that talks about how everybody eventually goes back to their roots, to the land where they were born, etc. It's a poignant moment in the film, because Rudy is realizing the error of his ways.

I watched the movie about 12 or 13 years ago, and this is the scene that stayed with me. Sure enough, I was able to find it on YouTube. Ain't the internets great?
