Monday Nights at the Guadalupe Café (5)

I'm happy to report that once again we have live jazz, Monday nights at the Guadalupe Café. The idea is still the same, but the line-up is slightly different. The core band is no longer the Wells Gordon trio. Apparently Wells had some differences with the management, so they're moving on with Sean (the drummer) and Tyler stepping up to lead: Tyler is still blowing mad tenor, and Sean is still playing great on the drums. The new cats are a bassist and a guitarist from Asheville. I can attest to their solidity. They sounded just fine on Monday night. Better and better, in fact, as the night wore on. I couldn't name all the songs they did, but I can say that they started with a minor blues, continued with a ballad, then a Brazilian thing. They played some up-tempo bop, "Bye Bye Blackbird," and what I'm sure was a Sonny Rollins piece, even though I can't name it. They'll be playing the first and third Mondays of every month, rather than every Monday. I for one, look forward to being there. Tyler can play in any format, but he's at his best when he can swing. I'm planning on sitting in, one of these Mondays, if I can get my act together on the alto sax.
