Catamount Community Radio - April 21, 2019

Here's the FacePage blurb for today's show. I was a little bit proud of it.

I've flown around the world in a plane,
I've settled revolutions in Spain.
The North Pole I have charted,
but I can't get started
with you.

Around the golf course I'm under par,
And all the movies want me to star.
I've got a house, a show place,
but I get no place
with you.

“I Can’t Get Started,” lyrics by Ira Gershwin, music by Vernon Duke (1936). I’ll include it in the cover contest today.

Catamount Community Radio, it puts that bounce in your step, that glide in your stride, that extra mile in your smile. It’s good for what ails you.

Ask your doctor if Catamount Community Radio is right for you. (Side effects include feelings of euphoria, childish glee, depression, suicidal thoughts, nostalgia, nausea, headaches, heartaches, earaches, hyperactivity, narcolepsy, delusions of grandeur, delusions of adequacy, hallucinations, dyspepsia, sneezing fits, itchy pits, grandma’s spells, corns, halitosis, stink foot, and the vapors.)

Catamount Community Radio. Be yourself again!

Dandy retains the cover-contest crown.

1. Two versions of "I Can't Get Started," by

a) Ella Fitzgerald
b) Sonny Rollins

2. Who is covering Mississippi John Hurt's "Let the Mermaids Flirt with Me"? - David Johansen. Jeff gets credit on this one, because he knew that Johansen was lead singer of the New York Dolls, and he also was familiar with one of his alter-egos: Dexter Poindexter.

3. Lester Young (Porkpie Hat) couldn't get started on this one but CANNONBALL ADDERLEY could. Nobody got it.

4. This one's complicated. Four parts: Title, original artist, person covering, and pop culture reference. Dandy got three of four and, basically, it won the contest for him. Title, original artist, coverer, and pop culture reference halfway through the original recording:

a) "Hold On"
b) John Lennon
c) Bill Frisell
d) the Cookie Monster, from Sesame Street

Yeah, thinking about it ...

maybe the "Side effects include..." conceit is played out.

Oh, The Frizz did Lennon. I got real lucky with the Ella answer. I just threw that one out there after not knowing the question until after the songs had played. My morning was full of distractions. And had I been listening more closely I may have got the David Jo answer. I'm a big fan.(I seen the Dolls back in 75) Play that again sometime, won't ya?
