Catamount Community Radio - September 13, 2015

Last night I slept with a hat, socks, and a jacket on, and even a blanket, one that my dad stole from the US Navy. It wasn't even 50 degrees when I got up. In other words, on September 13 it finally feels like September.

I saw a drone in real life for the first time the other day. The foremen at the big construction site here on camp were flying one. I'd seen them on the internet and TV screens but never for real. I made a little post on FB, and my friend X Ray commented, "rest assured they have seen you." Probably true.

The internet stream ... No such luck. It's been out since May, (as my friend Mark S. used to say) "for cryin' out loud." The worst part is how the Power 90.5 web site says, "We will keep you updated on the repair process. Thank you for your patience." This is horseshit (auto-corrrect prefers "horses hit") for two reasons: there have been no updates and there is no repair process. My friend Paul today commented, "Sundays are much less funky w/o Couture and company." Thanks, Paul.

I watched the Michigan State football game from beginning to end last night. I can't remember the last time I watched an entire football game on TV. I was into it. Spartans won, 31-28.

I really didn't have any underlying themes on today's show. I played a couple from Branford Marsalis, including one with a false start. Branford and a bass player start out on "Three Little Words," the bass player stops it and the following dialogue (more or less) is heard.

BRANFORD: You did it again.
MILT HINTON: No, No, It's C7, man
BRANFORD: I know the changes
MILT HINTON: You can't play that.
BRANFORD: I wanna play it. I'm trying to remember my Chu Berry licks.

And then they do it.

"September in the Rain" by Dinah Washington; "September Song" by Sarah Vaughn.
