Catamount Community Radio - October 27, 2013

Yesterday I drove more than 100 miles (and then back again) to Morganton to watch the Issue's regional cross-country meet. I was happy that the girls made second place, earning them a trip to the state meet next week, and also happy that my boy Roscoe behaved like a prince. No mean task for a six-month-old Australian Shepard. On the way home I was listening to WCU's homecoming football game on WWCU-FM, Power 90.5. They aired my promo. I was tickled. I wonder if it got me any listeners today.

Lou Reed died today. RIP Lou Reed. Will pay tribute next Sunday. I've always had mixed feelings, but I can unequivocally say that there is a lot of his music that I really dig, and not just Velvet Underground.

Slim, Slam, Sly, 3 Cohens. Mel Tormé. Another good Sunday at the station.

Jim Dandy wins the cover contest, getting points on all three questions.

1. I didn't give any hints, just played the song. It was Nirvana's "All Apologies," covered by Herbie Hancock.

2. Who is Eddie Adcock covering? - Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson." Apparently the tune (which is included in the movie "The Graduate") is based on real-life events. Wikipedia can tell ya.

3. An easy one..... Who(m) is Bi Ji Ling covering? - AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long."

I had a fourth question, but I decided to scrap it. I think I used it in a previous cover contest.
