Catamount Community Radio - August 12, 2012

I've started burning the CDs I use for the show at the slowest speed possible, to avoid as much as possible skips. It seems to have worked, no skips today... Although I did introduce one song, hit the button, and another tune started playing. Oh well.

Who's got the world on a string? Anita O'Day.

Erroll Garner played the Coffee song. Caffeinated, surely.

Duke Ellington did the Canadian anthem, "Take the Train, Eh?" I steal the pun from David Amram.

On campus you now hear the terrible (to me, at least) sound of the drum lines rehearsing. That could only mean one thing: school will be starting soon. With that in mind I played Chuck Berry doing "School Day," and Louis Armstrong, with "You Don't Learn that at School." You might learn History, Geography, Statistics and Spanish, but there are a few things you don't learn at school.

Bob Dylan covered "Early Morning Rain" (by Gordon Lightfoot) on an album called, get this, "Self-Portrait."

A country set: Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and Dave Dudley. I wanted to play road songs last week, when I was fresh off the road, but there was no time to prepare. So, I did a little set of road songs today.

Oscar Peterson swings like a .... fill in the blank.
