Greetings from Wapakoneta, OH

Here we are in the Super 8, the mother-in-law, the issue and I. I drove from Mancelona. Around Mt. Pleasant it started raining and didn't let up until Ann Arbor. As I get older my eyesight gets worse: darkness, traffic and rain are not a good combination for me. In some ways, I admire the nonchalance of the drivers who can cruise along in the left lane at 70 mph in the dark, in the rain, a car-length or two from the vehicle in front of them, but that's not me. I'm over in the right lane, just trying to go straight down the road at 60 mph and trying to maintain my composure. Anyway, from Ann Arbor here it was smooth sailing.

In Mt. pleasant I stocked up on Koegels, the world's best hot dogs. We stopped at my brother's place for a spot of tea and were soon back on the road. In East Lansing we had lunch at El Azteco, stocked up on bean burritos, and after an hour or so we were on the road again.

Yesterday I went over to the Meadow Brook nursing home in Bellaire and entertained the geezers with my piano tinkling and saxophone tooting. They weren't particularly impressed with my rendition of "Alfie" or with my Ellington medley on the 88s. What they liked best was "When the Saints Go Marching In" on the sax. I enjoyed it, they for the most part enjoyed it, and it's good to get practice playing in public.

I spent the evening with friends, eating, drinking, picking some guitar.

Tomorrow the rest of the journey: Dayton, Cincy, Lexinton, Knoxville, etc. I'll hope for good weather.
