Catamount Community Radio - October 2, 2011

It's a lovely day, it's gorgeous, divine, delicious, delectable, marvelous, too marvelous for words, even though the words are quickly accumulating despite my best intentions. There's a bumper in the parking lot. Somebody left the front bumper from their vehicle in the parking lot. How about that?

I had good premonitions about the show today. I just felt like it was going to be good, and I think it was. This is partly because I started working on the playlist early in the week, not because I'm anti-procrastination or anything, I just had some ideas. We heard a lot of good stuff today. What do you think, I'm gonna play some mediocre ka-shizit? Is it? So I played this little number by Hosono.

I dreamed about Lester Young playing some blues, and so thought it would only be appropriate to play Lester Young playing some blues. Mr. Pork Pie Hat.

I was in the process of making some black beans the other day when suddenly the oven fizzled and died. It probably blew a fuse. But come on. Who's ever heard of a stove breaking down like that? Is this some sort of built-in obsolescence thing or what? The irony is that the people called a week or so back to offer us a "maintenance plan" or some such. It struck me as a racket so naturally I refused to sign up. So now are we gonna be saddled with a huge repair bill? Stuff like refrigerators and sofas and ranges are supposed to last a lifetime. What's this world coming to? So it's been pure restaurant and microwave for the last couple days. Yesterday we ate at a German restaurant in Asheville. I enjoyed it. But, seriously, one needs some home cookin', doesn't one? All this to say that we heard Hilton Ruíz play "Home Cookin'"

Brook Benton sang "Mother Nature, Father Time":

You're way on top now
and you're having a ball
You've got the world on a string
You think you've got everything
But you've got nothing at all
'Cause one day you'll wake up
on the other side of the hill
Oh, if Mother Nature don't stop you
Father Time will.

Willie Nelson sang "Recollection Phoenix":

Rcollection phoenix
I wonder when the hell did I get older
My mind still on my woman
I wonder what she thinks of when I hold her.
Judging by the silence
You might think the road has made her colder
But I can't live without her
And I can't remember if i ever told her.

And you can read the playlist for yourself to the rest of the wonderful music that I spun this morning. Catamount Community Radio, Sunday mornings 10-12 (EST) on Power 90.5.
