Greetings from Lexington, KY (2)

Swiss cheese is full of holes.
The space that every hole occupies
could theoretically be filled with cheese.
So, the more holes, the less cheese.
The more cheese, the more holes.
Ergo, the more cheese, the less cheese.

Another gem from the from the world wide web.

The sirens ring constantly here in Lexington. Even in midtown Manhattan I don't recall hearing so many sirens.

I read my paper today at the conference. I was pretty happy with the result. The audience was small, but those who were there appreciated it. I handled the questions, in Spanish, with aplomb.

In the afternoon, none of the literature panels interested me, so I attended the linguistics panel. A propos of a certain structure in Spanish, I shared the Appalachian equivalent (grammatically, not semantically): "get you a biscuit."

I met a couple of Chileans, separately. I had a nice conversation with each. Curiously, both were 14 years old in 1973, the year of the coup d'etat against Salvador Allende (the other 9-11).

I came back to the hotel at 4:00 and decided to take a swim. I had the whole pool to myself. What a luxury. I swam 20 lengths. In spite of this feat, I'm still fat and ugly. I know because of this thing called the mirror. I've seen myself naked! And to think once upon a time I was lean and handsome!
