I Don't Eat a Lot of Lard,

but I've eaten it. It's gotta be better than margarine. In France, they have what they call "lardons" small pieces of pork fat, usually from the belly, that might even be put in a salad, like we would put in bacon bits. Now, don't be knockin' it till you done tried it.

The other day, I brought a "Lean Cuisine" to work to eat for lunch. I guess this is a TV dinner, circa 2010. It was one sorry-ass meal. I was even embarrassed to be seen heating it in our departmental microwave. At least now I know.

It really made me appreciate home cooking. Today I brought leftovers: some baked chicken, rice, black beans, mustard greens. Now that's food.

I used to have a customer at my store who was from Transylvania. A very charming young fellow, but he would talk about eating lard sandwiches back home. We found that rather strange. Now I see there must have been something to it.
