Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz

I listened to her radio show today. She had on Toots Thielemans, the Belgian of harmonica fame. These two octogenerians are reminiscing about Hoagy Carmichael (they played "Georgia" and "The Nearness of You"), about Ray Charles. Toots does a lovely impression of Ray. They even did a chorus of "Giant Steps." Crazy old people. Marian McPartland still has a nice touch and is a gracious person. Toots says the first thing he does in the morning, after having a yogurt, is run through the changes of a few jazz tunes in all twelve keys. What a guy! He had a stroke and has a hard time playing the guitar, but it hasn't affected his harmonica playing. What I liked the best was his "yeees" when MM would ask him to do a tune .... and his frequent laugh. His laugh is so sweet that it restores my hope for humanity.

Toots Thielemans

Sounds like a great interview: I'll definitely check it out. If you haven't heard his album with Elis Regina, check it out, it's great. From: A fellow music lover
