Catamount Community Radio Radio - April 10, 2011

Springsteen on the radio, leftover black beans, rice, and roast pork. Life is sometimes good.

It was good to be back on the radio today, after a week off. And, by the way, I won't be on the air next Sunday. I'll be down in West Palm Beach, FL, working on my sunburn.

So, I played a few covers today. I used to have a "cover contest" that at most two people would enter (Jim Dandy being one and Chris, the other). We'll do the contest now. Here are the covers, who did the originals?

1. Spooky
2. Tong Poo
3. Jealous Guy
4. Mr. Pitiful

Two are easy; two are hard. Send answers to ccrcovercontest at gmail dot com. You can use google for one answer, or call a friend, or an enemy.

I fulfilled some requests today: Leo Kottke and Nina Simone.

Two by Steely Dan. I remember unsuccessfully trying to learn the bass line to "Peg" when I was a teenager: picking up the needle and putting it back on the record, playing along, messing up, picking up the needle, dropping it back on the vinyl, and repeat until you get fed up with the whole thing.

Two called "Soledad" - different songs with the same title. In Spanish, "solitude," but also a woman's name. (And, by the way, a big theme in Latin American literature).

I drew on Mr. T's "Over and Over" series for a few tunes.

Closed with a version of "Careless Love," a traditional song of obscure origins, with variations in its lyrics.

Love, oh love, oh careless love,
You fly to my head like wine,
You've ruined the life of many a poor girl,
and you nearly wrecked this life of mine.

Catamount Community Radio, on WWCU, Sunday mornings 10-12 (Eastern Costal time).

To Tong Poo, Thanks for everything!

The obvious one for me to know would be...
Jealous Guy by John Lennon
after that, purely guessing would be...
Spooky by The Atlanta Rhythm Section?
and was Mr. Pitiful sung by...Tab Hunter? (I think I have that name mixed up with the correct answer which is different. haha)
Oh wait, I think I was just thinking of Gene Pitney but maybe because they both have pits. haha.
Oh well. That was fun. Did I Win?

Re: To Tong Poo, Thanks for everything!

ARS, yes. the other two are Japanese group Yellow Magic Orchestra and Otis Redding. Of course you won! Now I need to figure out WHAT you won. A sticker maybe.
You were meant to blog. It has inspired me to start my own blog on barrie dentist
