New Year's Resolutions

This year,
besides eating
more vegetables
and drinking less hooch,
I resolve
to read the directions
from beginning to end
before assembling.

I resolve too
to watch more TV.
I hardly watch anything
and, you never know,
I might be missing
some good shows.

Furthermore,
I resolve
to be luckier.
It's not that I'm not lucky
but I'm not lucky
enough.

So, I'll practice,
and the more I practice
the luckier I'll get.

They'll call me "Lucky."

And finally,
I resolve not to make myself
perfectly clear.
Because If I reduce to clarity
the chaos of my confusion,
then surely
(I don’t mind if you call me,
Shirley)
something vital
will be lost.

I posted this poem

yesterday and later deleted it. I was struggling with the last part. I wrote something like "I resolve to fill / the sadness hole / in my soul / with kittens, puppies / and jokes." My daughter commented, asking what that was supposed to mean. I thought, "I don't know, I couldn't come up with an ending." So what I did was got rid of that ending, and substituted another poem that was already in the works, but that was going nowhere. The idea of which is that if you communicate clearly, then you are probably over-simplifying whatever it is that you are trying to communicate. I hope the poem is better now. Anyway, i'm just going to leave it as is.

You're Lucky

that I read this poem. It gives me the opportunity to tell you about over simplified butter.
One advantage of over simplified butter is that it has a much higher smoke point than regular butter, so you can cook with it at higher temperatures without it browning and burning. Also, without the milk solids, over simplified butter can be kept for much longer without going rancid.
Next week, How to get to Carnegie Hall.
