Shoe Laces

It seems like with other peoples' shoes, the laces are always about the right length, but whenever I buy a new pair of sneakers or hiking boots (which is what I wear 19 days out of 20), the laces are much too long. I've thought this over and come the conclusion that ... there is a conspiracy against me. The stores usually have just one shoe out, the right one, and you try it on, and if you like it, you tell the clerk, who goes to the back to get the other shoe. Now when I buy a pair of shoes, the clerk seems to be gone for a long time. That's because she's in the back pulling out the stock strings and replacing them with extra-long ones.
