Catamount Community Radio - February 28, 2010

I'm one of those douchebags who hits the snooze three times before getting out of bed. This morning at the third round of beep beep beep, I popped out of bed. I wasn't dizzy; didn't get a nosebleed. I was up and on my way to a new day. I had my coffee, worked on a puzzle for awhile, abandoned it, had my shower, and was out the door.

Due to a flat tire on my bicycle, which I haven't quite got around to fixing, I walked today, which has its advantages. When you lie in bed, with the usual insomnia, the inevitable thoughts (usually more bad than good) swirl around in the air above your head. Walk away, it's all you gotta do. You walk away from all your problems, which remain circulating in the stale air above your bed, while you, out there ambulating in the fresh morning air, enjoy your happiness, however ephemeral.

Listening to the banter of the Edinburgh college students between 12:30 and 1:00, and then X-Ray Burns and Glen Jones between 1:00 and 1:30, how can I come up with anything clever to say? I can't, so I'll just chill until Glen and X-Ray shut up, and then I'll get down to some serious typing .... OK, it's 1:36, so here I go. I must confess that I put off the Detroit special for another week. My excuse this time is that I was under the weather (I swear, next week, I'll be OVER the weather, even if it snows).

The Duke of Ellington framed the show, and we listened to the usual mishmash of this and that, with some jazz, some country. We heard the Counting Crows cover Joni Mitchell:

Hey farmer, farmer, put away your DDT
I don't care about spots on my apples,
Leave me the birds and the bees - please
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got till it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
Hey now, they've paved paradise to put up a parking lot
Why not?
