There was a moment this morning, when the Ellington orchestra kicked it with "Take the A Train," and on into Maceo Parker's "Latin Like," that sent me into the realm of musical bliss. Do you believe that? You never know, it could be true. Anyway, you can share the magic by tuning into WWCU FM Sunday mornings from 10-12 on the east coast.

Some interesting lyrics today, too. I like Dylan's "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You":

Throw my ticket out the window,
Throw my suitcase out there, too,
Throw my troubles out the door,
I don't need them any more
'Cause tonight I'll be staying here with you.
I should have left this town this morning
But it was more than I could do.
Oh, your love comes on so strong
And I've waited all day long
For tonight when I'll be staying here with you.
Is it really any wonder
The love that a stranger might receive.
You cast your spell and I went under,
I find it so difficult to leave.
I can hear that whistle blowin',
I see that stationmaster, too,
If there's a poor boy on the street,
Then let him have my seat
'Cause tonight I'll be staying here with you.
Throw my ticket out the window,
Throw my suitcase out there, too,
Throw my troubles out the door,
I don't need them any more
'Cause tonight I'll be staying here with you.

And I got a kick out of Blind Willie McTell's "Lord, Send Me an Angel." I especially like the fact that the lyrics mention the old playground game of mumbly pegs, a blast from my past. Not that I ever played it, but I can remember my dad talking about it.

Good Lord, good Lord, send me an angel down
Can't spare you no angel, will spare you a teasin' brown
That new way of loving, swear to God it must be best
These Georgia women won't let Mr. McTell rest
There was a cry down on the corner, I wondered who could it could be
Must be some women, tryin' to get to me
Went down to the sheriff, with suitcase in my hand
All the women run cryin', saying, "Mr. Mac, won't you be my man?"
My momma she told me when I was a boy playing mumbly pegs
Don't drink no black cow's milk and don't eat no black hen's eggs.
My baby studyin' evil, and I'm studyin' evil too
Gonna hang round here to see what my baby gon' do
I can't be trusted, and I can't be satisfied
When the men see me comin', they go pin their womens to their side
Love my loving, like to get it any time of day
To get my right lovin', I'm going to Georgia right away
(Oh sure is good)
I got three womens,
yellow, brown and black
Take the governor of Georgia to judge the one I like
One woman's Atlanta yellow, one of them Macon brown
But the Statesboro dark skin will turn your damper down
So bye, bye momma; I'll see you some sweet day
you'll be awful sorry you drove your man away
